Bubonic plague is closer than many think.
The prairie dogs around Denver have had it for years. Even at least one human transmission if not more.

Every year people die of bubonic plague. The plague is in most Western states and it is present every year due to fleas. The vast majority of people who get the plague survive - I mean VAST like over 85%. The reason there are 133 deaths is because it's off the coast of Africa where there's probably difficulties with immediate medical attention.

Harsh to say, but we will need to quarantine any aid workers who go to Africa.

And forbid the import of any patients.

Not harsh to say in the slightest. My father had a commercial fishing company in Nigeria and I could not give blood for a long time because I had traveled to Africa during certain years.
